2nd Annual Boston Handmade "Be Mine" Valentine Show on February 6

"Be Mine"
The 2nd Annual Boston Handmade Valentine Show
Friday, February 6 ~ 5pm to 9pm
450 Harrison Avenue ~ Gallery #31 ~ 31 Thayer Street
South End, Boston, MA

This one-night-only event coincides with the First Friday open studios and gallery receptions in the SoWa arts district of Boston’s South End!

Twenty local artists, artisans and craftspeople will be exhibiting their one-of-a-kind and limited edition works at Be Mine, which is the 2009 Boston Handmade debut after their successful 2008 Downtown Crossing holiday gallery. This special Valentine event includes live acoustic music by Peter Paulousky and new exhibitor designs created especially for the winter season and Valentine’s Day.

Hope to see you there!

Happy Birthday Danny!

Happy 21st birthday to my not-so-little-anymore brother Danny! If you see him today, buy him a drink!

Phoenix: A Background

A while ago, I was challenged to illustrate the word phoenix. I based my piece on the following definition:

phoe•nix [fee-niks] noun, genitive: a person or thing of peerless beauty or excellence; paragon.

I scanned in the above old picture of my mom (ok, my dad is there, too), combined it with some textured, patterned elements, and some work in photoshop, and finished with this:

I think I definitely met the challenge... and it is also mother approved!

The Little Sketchbook that Could

I have finished my sketchbook for The Sketchbook Project well in advance of the due date. Hooray! It will be on its merry way to the Art House when I drop it in the mail tomorrow.

sketchbook

I really enjoyed this project. If you need a refresher, this project will tour the United States beginning in February and will feature a collection of sketchbooks filled with work by various people from all over the place. My sketchbook ended up being a kind of visual diary of the last decade of my life... I hope visitors to the galleries it will be displayed in will enjoy viewing it at least 10% as much as I enjoyed creating it!
